Professor Dr Shatriah Ismail is a senior consultant ophthalmologist and Deputy Director of Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. Formerly the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at USM, she is a leading figure in paediatric ophthalmology, particularly in strabismus and refractive errors in children.
She has authored over 150 scientific publications, collaborating with researchers in Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK. An editorial board member of the Medical Journal of Malaysia and associate editor of Cureus, she also reviews for more than 20 international journals.
Prof Shatriah plays a significant role in postgraduate ophthalmology training, having chaired the Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology and currently serving as Chief Examiner for specialist certification.
She is the President of the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, and a council member of the Malaysian Medical Council, contributing significantly to clinical practice, academic leadership, and medical governance in Malaysia.
